January Free Desktop Wallpapers

HAPPY NEW YEAR! For this months installment of free desktop wallpapers, I decided to keep the designs simple and fresh. The holidays can be so chaotic, which is why I try to de-clutter just about everything in my life this time every year. Last year was EFFING FANTASTIC – and I’m so excited for all the amazing things I get to design this year! In addition to keeping the wallpapers very simple, I also wanted to bring in the optimistic spirit this month seems to give people. I’ve been feeling extra peppy myself lately – my husband and I quit drinking alcohol and eating sugar for the entire month of January, and we have so much more energy! We were feeling gluttonous from overindulging over the holidays. The alcohol was a no brainer (although every day when quittin’ time comes around, the call of the after-work drink is strong… but so far I’ve been good) but the SUGAR is going to be HARD. Sadly I’ve made it a habit to indulge in a sweet snack mid day. I really miss my afternoon mocha… please tell me this gets easier! #firstworldproblems

Hope you had a crazy awesome holiday, and are enjoying your new year thus far. You can download the wallpapers using the links below, and as always, please share these with your favorite people!

Cheers! xoxo

Holiday Décor Favorites, Part 2

Today I’m posting my fave holiday decorations in neutrals – which also includes metallics (duh!). While my studio is super cheery and decorated in brights, I tend to gravitate towards neutrals, metallics and some darks for home. I’ve always sort of automatically blamed this on the two big dogs and one big husband I shack up with… they’re all very dirty, you see. But then recently I realized that in addition to this reasoning, another possible reason may very well be from the calming effect neutral tones tend to have on people. Which would make sense for me because I treat my home as a safe-haven tucked away from the overwhelming bustling world (introvert, here!). When I go to work I want to feel energized – totally apparent by the bright pops of color in the studio – but when I am home I want to feel calm and relaxed, so I can re-energize in prep for another day of creativity. Guess I should stop blaming the husband and dogs? Nah…

Do you find yourself wanting a calming atmosphere at home? Or do you crave the energy and excitement of a bright palette? xo – Brianna

December Free Desktop Wallpapers

What in the heck happened to November??! I blinked and then it was over – what a crazy busy month it was. So far this month has been just as hectic, but because I felt guilty for not having enough time to design November’s free desktop wallpapers, I made sure to pencil them in for December. Keeping with the season, here are three festive designs that will certainly get you in the holiday spirit. Download using the links below, and please share these freebies with your loved ones!

Holiday Décor Favorites, Part 1

I’m very practical, so when I buy something I tend to get as much mileage out of it as I possibly can. This applies to holiday decor, I’ve been using the same decorations for 5+ years now. I have been slowly adding a few items bit by bit, but my style has changed so much in the last decade that I’d love to start all over again. I do have a table rented at the next flea market – maybe this will finally be the year I sell all my holiday decor, and with the money buy some fresh new festive pieces (and use them for another half decade?! haha)

First up are my “bright” favorites. While I’d love to have a fresh and bright palette in my home, the whites would never stand up to 2 big dogs and a husband. Soooooooo darks + neutrals it is at home. Luckily my studio is ALL MINE and therefore I can decorate it HOWEVER I want – and if the white couch gets ruined there is no one to blame but myself, heh.

Have you started decorating for the holidays yet? What style and colors do you gravitate towards? xoxo – Brianna

2014 Fall Fashion Roundup

Autumn in Oregon is frikking spectacular. You can’t go wrong with sunny blue skies, cooler breezes and of course the trees turning to bright fiery hues. This time of year I find myself craving salted carmel lattes and a whole new wardrobe. Something about the oncoming winter makes me feel like new coats, boots and sweaters are a necessity. The bankroll doesn’t quite cover the want list but every year I find a way to pick up at least 2 or 3.

This year my fall fashion list seems to comprise of casual basics, which is no surprise given my practicality. It appears I am over dresses and skirts, which definitely wore out their welcome (pun intended) over the summer.   //6//  As a dressy replacement I’d love to get my hands on a romper that isn’t ill-fitting.   //1//  I’m loving the understated black leather coat by Madewell – the camouflaged black hardware is perfect for those who wear gobs of jewelry (I’m guilty) for fear of looking too flashy.   //9//  I’m also digging the Iron Ranger Red Wing boots – made for men but luckily they have youth sizes which fit us gals!   //10//  I’ll continue to wear my turquoise + silver rings (mine are vintage, but you can find similar here).   //11//  I adore the drape and color of Almond’s Silk Shibori Cape. I believe I can pick one up locally at Heritage Dry Goods – heard a rumor she just started carrying that line.   //8//  Cut-out boots are a great option for transitioning from summer into fall – really like the braided straps on these Trenza boots from Moorea Seal.   //4//  Speaking of shoes, I desperately need some new black flats – really like the d’Orsay style on these little numbers.   //2//  And currently leopard seems to be the go-to print for kicks, love this Jcrew pair of flats, looks perfect with her whole wall-of-denim ensemble.   //7//  I wear my Current + Elliott railroad stripe boyfriend jeans nonstop, so it probably couldn’t hurt to invest in another pair, in darker denim.   //5//  I could use more blousey shirts and I love how this one dips down in the back.   3//  Last but not least, a good lightweight scarf is the perfect lazy-girl accessory – easiest way to finish an outfit. Really loving the eyeball trend that’s happening right now, and I just purchased this from Moorea Seal. I’ve already worn it a dozen times – people don’t see the pattern right away and it’s funny when they finally notice, hehe.

I’m curious what everyone else is craving for fall? What wardrobe staples will you be acquiring to get you through the season?

Renegade Mini Market Portland

Last weekend I was fortunate enough to have been accepted as a maker for the first ever Renegade Mini Market in Portland. I’d never attended Renegade before and wasn’t sure what to expect, but I had heard nothing but good things. The weekend turned out AWESOME. I heard from other makers that overall it was pretty slow for a Renegade show, but IMO that’s to be expected for their first appearance in Portland. My booth was in a great location and I’m very happy with my sales. I met so many nice people, it’s always lovely to hear praise after you’ve spent so much time and energy preparing for a show. I was in exceptional company – the roster was filled with so many talented makers. At the very end of the day on Sunday I was able to mill around gathering cards and inspiration. Here is a roundup of my favorites…

RCF-roundup

As you can see, I could have spent a small fortune on Jewelry! While I did not have much time for shopping, I was able to pick up a bottle of Egyptian Jasmine Luminous Body Oil by Herbivore Botanicals. It is *amazing*. The smell drives me crazy (in a good way) and I adore the silky smoothness of my skin after using it. Another thing I couldn’t live without is the Dash Bottle Vase in Pink by The Granite. I woke up on Monday thinking about it, so I knew I had to have it! It will look so cute in my studio, I’ll be sure to post pics after I receive it. Funny thing, turns out the nice ladies of The Granite have their studio in the North Coast Seed Building – the same building as my sister! When I was visiting Sabrina at her studio for Wolf Child last month she gave me a tour of the building. Crazy inspiring – the artist lofts and studios seriously made me want to move to Portland. Maybe one day…?

Gifted Urban Bazaar

Back in December of 2012 I was looking for creative holiday shopping, and decided to attend the holiday Portland Bazaar in Portland, Oregon. Created and organized by the talented Grace Bonney of the infamous blog Design*Sponge, I knew before even walking through the door that I’d be impressed. Of course, the event was ah-maazing, and I left inspired to create a fresh urban craft market of my own for my hometown city of Eugene, Oregon. Being a smaller city than Portland with a slower growth pattern, Eugene is ripe for savvy entrepreneurial challenges – and if done with the right amount of style and sophistication – can be a frenzied buzz of instant popularity and success. With this in mind, I felt a fresh urban craft market would fill a much needed local niche, and so I decided to give the event a try. I hastily (though thoughtfully and cleverly) named the event and designed the logo. The very first Gifted Urban Bazaar was introduced in December of 2013 and was held inside the Atrium of the Commerce Building in downtown Eugene, OR. The event was well attended and received positive feedback from both shoppers and vendors. With the success of the initial bazaar it was decided a summer event should take place, and on June 21st, 2014 Gifted Urban Bazaar was held at Kesey Square in downtown Eugene. With 16 participating vendors and attendance around 300 – 500, feedback from the public was overwhelmingly positive. Both shoppers and vendors expressed the need for such an event. There were also numerous requests to have the event more often!

Hearing the love and support from the community has been a complete thrill, and I’m excited to see how Gifted can grow. Nicole from Heritage Dry Goods and I have been working together to find a permanent sponsor, so that every event is on solid ground and the framing for internal infrastructure can begin. There may not be enough time for a second summer bazaar, but that means we’ll have plenty of time for the winter shows – and boy do we have plans to make them awesome! If you’re interested in future shows, head on over and “like” the Gifted Facebook page. You can also sign up for my newsletters via Little Arrow where I’ll announce any future bazaars.

Hope to see you at the next Gifted!
